In Rolling Waves

Naked and Famous - In Rolling Waves

Soundtrack of the weekend. Please make Rolling Waves your first port of call, then Waltz.

Being the tourist that I am, I decided to be a photo monkey and take some snaps whilst having some downtime with my flatmate. Wanting to blow up some of these photos so I kept the pixel count high with the intention of mounting and framing them for the new house, meant that they took an age to upload but I have been patient and kept them small.

Every off-duty model and Shoreditch hipster seem to own a pair of Dr Martens.

Back to the usual

Same old tricks.  Same old story.

Except now I'm from the capital and shed my student skin.

Scouting SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/pridesband - Out of the Blue

Amazing find.

Check out my friend's bro's watches, jazzing up wrists left right and centrrre.

Larsson and Jennings

This brand know exactly the right concoction for marketing genius - hot semi naked girl, tons of chunky jewellery, sail boats and sun shine. Ad campaigns shot during Croatia's summer festival seasons - always going to translate well.

I'll have mine in red Dalmatian please. Grab them from http://www.larssonandjennings.com/

Last name London First name Theophilus

You heard of him before but...Theophilus London

....Actually not from London.

This guy is a rapper/singer originally from Brooklyn NYC, not from the deep South - as the cowboy hat featured in several of his music videos would lead you to believe.

Wine and Chocolates is currently doing the rounds - remixed by two Cologne DJs- Andhim.

Timez Are Weird These Nights ;

Whilst enjoying the originals I also came across the remixes which are great  - various DJs feature; Skream, Brodinski and Crookers, and the remixed album is available on Spotify whereas the official isn't available yet. Perfect for pounding some kilometres out and keeping the energy high.

Bakermat..

A friend also introduced me to a great session on SoundCloud by Bakermat. The beauty of it is, the track listings are below so finding new music is so easy. Funeral by Band of Horses is the intro for the mix. However, the Band of Horses album is a sad let down in comparison to this stand alone song.

Lustss of the weeeek

Trapstar... Again

I just fucking bumm this make.... not only is it supercool (check out their satin black bomber jacket) but popular amongst my idols Cara D/Rihanna, who are frequently papped promoting and wearing their shiz. Their tag line "It's a secret" I have a feeling, it ain't gonna stay that for much longerrr....

...And since a pesky man has stolen my BOY London sweat and is adamantly refusing to give it me back, my attention has turned to the recently repleted sweatshirt stock from Trapstar. I want this one in a Large please! Black&Gold. Lions. Supercool.

And I will happily add to m collection of bobble hats. The red one I already have is quite punchy, but when worn with a bike leather J and some chelsea boots, is surpassingly acceptable - even in Waitrose. Although I did have a bit of a conundrum as to what to do with the green plastic coin they gave me at the checkout. I assumed it was for parking, so kept it. I now have it floating round my car ashtray, whilst some poor charity is clearly desperately needing more coins.

TOPSHOP.... yesssssss please

I want this outfit so much, I am even willing to give up my gangster wants for this British made jacket and cami combo. Wear with black boots, bouncy hair and red lips to finish off.

Finally got the canon

Devastating news, last week I managed to lose my third, possibly fourth, point and shoot camera. After arguing numerous times with my mother - that I am responsible, and never lose my belongings, I think I owe her an apology on this one. Rather than being stolen, or broken, I accidentally dropped my Sony point and shoot in a bar without realising. So RIP little cammy - you did me proud. I actually bought it in Bali, so I have some very fond memories of it.

However, whilst this was going on, I bit the bullet and finally ordered the Canon 600D. It's mid-range but perfect for what I want to use it for. It has the swinging LCD back so you can take photos from loads of different angles. I'm having a lot of fun playing with it - which is good because revision is so boring! Here are a few shots I took whilst in Bath over the weekend.

This is on Royal Crescent, the postcard crescent synonymous with Bath. It's a shame about all the cars really, but it is still very touristy.

I enjoyed the name of this trinket shop.

Same Same but Different, is a cafe just at the top of Bath. It looked delicious but was completely overfilled so unfortunately we weren't able to eat there which was a shame. I also love the name of this cafe - reminds me of the Vietnamese.

This is my beautiful friend Zoe.

Where's Wally?
These are just a selection. Cannot wait to fully get started. I'm already saving (well not really) for the 50mm f1.4 lens so I can take some bokeh-tastic shots.

Sort your shapes out

Definitely been guilty of throwing a few dad moves out there... The bus driver being an all time classic, but really should not be attempted in public.

If you do anything today. Listen to Bastille

BASTILLE

I cannot WAIT for this!! Their album is out c7th March. Pre-order iTunes.....

I first heard them when I was in Ireland over the weekend, again another shazam moment. Pompeii is there current single, but I've been on youtube to check out the remainder of the album and it is on fire!

The band have been around since 2010. Seen at Leeds and Reading last year if you are very astute. They've been on tour supporting Two Door Cinema club, so I guess you could describe their music as of a similar vein, but I personally prefer their sound. The album is called Bad Blood and the track is a tune.

Their stuff has been featured on Made in Chelsea and Vampire Diaries. Pretty contemporary, easy to listen to and even better to sing along to when you think no one is watching.

Interestingly, their name came about as their lead singer was born on Bastille Day, 14th July, but I promise, this is the only french influence in sight.....

CLUBROOT

iii - mmxii and Clubroot

Back to dubstep

Forget the awful, painful sounds of transformers having intercourse. Dubstep has been given a bad name with appalling remixes, mainly due to Skrillex and idiots getting frisky with their synthesisers. This is actually good stuff and probably my favourite type of dubstep.

Leeds is FULL of electro house - which obviously I love, but I've always enjoyed dubstep/deep dub. I found this guy on a compilation by MrSuicideSheep on YouTube, I shazamed it as I thought it sounded pretty chilled. I've given all three albums on Spotify a listen and it's fucking superb.

Clubroot is an English producer, I'd never heard of him until recently, and it was a chance finding rather than via promotion. His stuff could be likened to Burial, but I feel that it's a bit more upbeat and fresh than that. A combination of eerie deep dub and d&b, I thought some of it sounded similar to Leftfield. Perfect for revising, chilling, background music. The base is sublime, my favourite tracks are from the self titled album, Dulcet and Lucid Dream. Just pretty fucking sick tracks. So turn up the volume, whap up the base and let your room vibrate to Clubroot.

Cara D plus Beanie

Hats off

Forget Millie Mackintosh's twitter account for her wide brimmed hats, Cara Delevingne is a woman on a mission, spreading the word for cool head gear. Usually spotted with cross eyes and a quirky grin, but more recently spotted posing in Trapstar beanies - along with pals Rita Ora and Rihanna.
Not content with publicising Trapstar, Delevingne is the poster girl for any sort of hat. Pompom, furry, fluffy, niche or otherwise. Here is a selection of my favourites...

I first read this to say Mince Pies.

Unsurprisingly Trapstar have sold out of most of the popular colours, so I'm aware that I'm massively late coming to the party. But if you don't mind wearing a whacky colour that probably isn't in sync with your greyscale colour code then go right ahead to their website.
I'm considering buying an orange one - mainly because I think orange will work fine for a brunette and its bladdy freezing outside!

There's only one major downside to Cara and her insane taste in fashion - and that is she is impossibly skinny. It would be ridiculous to try replicate this girl's frame, clothes just hang off her. However, this doesn't stop me and the rest of the world watching her each and every fashion moment in appreciation.

Nicole

Gold eyeliner wanted!

I had to post this stunning picture of Nicole Scherzinger. Good Lord, Jesus Christ this woman is fine!

Promoting her new song. I haven't heard it yet, but to be honest, I think I just want to see the video. Lewis Hamilton. Lucky guy.

Snaps from the hols

Few photes

I took a few amateur snaps over the hols, trying to use some new techniques my godfather taught me the other day. Despite my best efforts to fall back in love with my Olympus PEN, I still really want to get involved with the Canon 600D and start a lens collection. First on my list is the fixed 50mm f1.4. It's not particularly affordable, but I've read reviews and the bokeh is amazing. First pay packet....

If only I'd known...

My cousin has just turned 18, and is a budding fashionista. Over the holidays we have talked numerous times about clothes, style and items she's lusting after already for 2013. I tried to impart some advice, mainly lessons I've learnt the hard way, so that hopefully she can avoid needless embarrassment and tragic overspend.

1) Never buy something to slim into....

Honestly, we are alllll guilty of this. We buy an expensive pair of jeans, or something in the sale that just isn't the right size, with every intention on slimming into it, or squeezing into it weeks down the line.
DON'T. Just don't do it. It is highly unlikely that you will lose any weight, or suddenly morph body shape in the interim between buying said item and wearing it again. Either buy in the size you are now, or hold off all together. I've got at least three dresses hanging up, which I've never worn because of this exact reason.

2) White, is a nightmare

Yes it looks smart, sophisticated and glamourous, but white is an extremely tricky colour to pull off. You can always see your undergarments, your fake tan inevitably rubs off onto it and 9 times out of 10 if it's not you who spills, it's a friend. So unless you are a bride, have a good nude bra, a string thong and an aversion for human company, you may as well stick to navy or black.

3) Designer handbags

Now unless you're earning mega-dollars, a designer handbag really isn't a necessity. You always have to be cautious when you take it out, and chances are people will probably assume it's a fake anyway. Decent leather handbags are so easy to find. If you want something unique, look on ASOS Market Place. If you're desperate for a designer style - just shop highstreet and save yourself many pennies! They always do great imitation pieces. If you MUST have a designer bag, do your research and get a bag that isn't going to age more quickly than a banana skin and obey the tip above - ie avoid white.

4) Keeping items because you KNOW you'll recycle it

If you've not worn it in 2 years, it's unlikely that you'll wear it again. My mum is a classic example of this. There are very very few items she's passed onto me, but still insists on having four wardrobes full of throw backs to the 80's. It's really frustrating! DO your bit for charity and send your unwanted unused items. If you're thrifty, you may decide to sell them, and if you're particularly creative you may re-style, but having the time to do this is uncommon.

Hope some of these gems help!

Very Happy New Year

Radio silence...

Music Taa Daa

You may have already heard the remix of 'Say My Name' by Destiny's child that I am talking about. But Cyril Hahn has also remixed Solange Knowles, Haim and Jessy Ware's recent songs. They are absolute dreams.  Sometimes he just mixes up the tracks, others he adds vocals. It's not cheesy or overly beaty, but pays homage to the original songs and actually in my opinion makes them better. More of his stuff can be found on Soundcloud, he already has over 13,000 followers - not really hard to see why. I'm hoping he continues to bring out more audio feasts over the next few months.

A friend introduced me to his YouTube channel yesterday. I was impressed by the immense amount of track listings, and all decent stuff. Perfect for just subscribing to, sitting back and allowing someone else to do the hard work. Find it at PaddyRyan1006, just type it into YouTube. He's complied playlists to provide hours worth of music, suitable for any time of day or activity- although I'm not quite sure what 'supping' means. It's easy to find music inspiration and discover some new shiz. Must say, I've only got round to sampling those on the chill playlist, there's a whopping 106 videos- I'm not entirely sure I'm that fussed about Hip Hop so not bothered looking there yet:

Another homage to MK

Away from the catwalk

Nightime

Daytime

Anytime...

I'll have the Chanel gold necklace please Santa. Possibly for my birthday too.
Pretty sure Kerr is featured in Glamours best dressed 2012. Obviously a very deserving candidate. One of the reasons I adore this lady's style so much, is because of the jacket. She always has an amazing jacket, and it just completes the whole outfit. I'm an absolute sucker for a coat, leather jacket, blazer, you name it. And what's worse is a) they are always pricey and b) you usually take it off almost immediately after you've arrived, then it is put somewhere - namely a back of a chair. However, practicalities aside, a decent jacket is an absolute must and an investment piece. I recently picked up a black double breasted coat from Zara, and it is an absolute triumph, even if I do say so myself. It's now completely out of stock, so no doubt I will have that awkward moment of bumping into someone or walking by a stranger in the street wearing said purchase. However, to be honest - if you saw this jacket, you'd understand why, instead of a dirty look, I'd congratulate the other person for making such a fabulous buy.

Strictly..

Some how, my father's passion for Strictly rubbed off on me, and I found myself watching the celebrities twirl and glide if I was at home on a Saturday night. Nimble-Kimble and Denise were early stars, using their background in showbiz to their advantage. However, Louis Smith, was probably the one who progressed the most, coming up from the ranks to win the show last night. It's not hard to see why he has so many adoring female fans. One of the routines was performed sans shirt- as slightly dirty tactic when he was competing against two other women in the final...

Good old Louis. Apparently he does some gymnastics or something too.

Worth a look

Despite the site having literally thousands and thousands of items, modelled by aspiring boutique owners, Asos Marketplace is a decent site to spot a bargin and an original item. Here's a few of my favourites:

Amazon: a business that runs smoothly!

I bought a kindle before my travels in July. It's worked like a charm for the past few months, and using the 3G network meant that I could download books wherever I chose. It's light, it works in sunlight, and I have access to thousands of books at my fingertips..... Yesterday it stopped working...

After sliding and releasing the power switch several times, in several positions, in the air, on its side, the machine still refused to load. Today, I spent time on their troubleshooting webpage. It's very easy. I followed their various instructions, still to no avail. Finally I rang them up. They asked me to do all the usual stuff. Then once all options had been fully exhausted, they offered to send me a new one.
It arrives in two days.
I have to return the faulty one - they pick it up, on a day that is convenient for me. All I need to do is print a label, Yodel will come pick up my delivery.

Perfect. Now that is customer service!
